Embrace the New

If I had to sum up July in one word, it would be embrace.
My first moments of embrace started last month when I sat through No More Broken Cisterns with Dr. Crystal Lou, and somethings broke off of me. Even in the wellness journey, there are things I am still working through. Sometimes, we do not realize how heavy experiences, narratives, relationships, or events were until we finally release it.
I entered July knowing the month might require me to confront losses I experienced years ago, but I had no idea what that would truly mean. In all honesty, I’ve been a perfectionist at compartmentalizing nearly every part of my life-personal and professional challenges, traumatic and toxic experiences, joyful moments, relationships, and friendships. I have worked hard to keep everything separate, carefully placing each experience in its own box. But there comes a moment when you realize that compartmentalization is not always healing. Sometimes, it is a survival response rooted in trauma.
Then comes the pivot, the internal shift and moment of true surrender. It is the realization that there is no longer a reason to live in a constant state of survival or fear. Some moments require integration and connection because, together, they tell the fullness of our story. And our stories become our testimonies.
July was about moving out of God’s way and allowing Him to bring meaning and wholeness to every part of my story. There can be no more broken cisterns—no more relying on people, places, patterns, narratives, or coping strategies that cannot hold the living water God desires to pour into me.
Now, I can embrace the new things happening in and through me. I can show up as God would have me show up rather than as I would have myself show up.
I am embracing the discomfort.I am embracing learning. I am embracing failure.I am embracing my mistakes. I am embracing my imperfections. I am embracing living whole. And I am truly embracing healing. I am embracing new activities such ad swimming and cycling. I am embracing that soon I will retire. I am embracing that my identity is first in Christ. I am embracing what I am called to and what I am called away from. I am embracing this version of me, for she is loved and nurtured by the Father.
Even in the embrace, this journey is not easy but for His glory, it is all worth it.
“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” — Isaiah 43:19
